South Lawndale issued 36 permits in May worth $5 million, nearly quadruple April's $1.3 million. Express permits accounted for 25 of those 36, with signs and renovation work making up most of the rest. Two new construction permits also came through. The dollar spike suggests at least one big project hit the books, though the permit count stayed flat month-over-month.
