Roseland crime drops 37% as permits fall
Roseland logged 232 crimes in April, down from 368 the month before. Violent offenses dropped to 100 from 124. Eight new businesses opened, including New Taste of Chicago and Taurus Steak & Hoagie. Permits slid to 35 from 54, with total value falling to $3.7 million. Most permits went to express-program projects. Residents called in 142 requests for garbage cart fixes and 116 pothole complaints. One food inspection failed.
