North Lawndale permit value spikes to $6.3 million
Permit value in North Lawndale more than doubled this month, hitting $6.3 million versus $2.8 million in February, even as the permit count slipped from 41 to 40. Renovation work (13 permits) and express permits (14) led the way, with 10 new construction applications in the mix. Seven businesses opened, including Washen Car Wash and Ogden Foods, a wholesale food operation. Service requests climbed 24 percent to 1,282, with 161 complaints landing in a tree-trim category the city no longer accepts. Crime reports rose 17 percent to 494; violent incidents jumped 19 percent to 166. Four food establishments failed inspections.
