Lower West Side permit value jumps to $9.5 million
Lower West Side saw $9.5 million in permitted construction in December, nearly quadruple November's $2.5 million. The 28 permits included 16 under the city's express program and seven for renovation or alteration work. Crime rose 14 percent to 222 incidents, with violent crime up 38 percent to 88 cases. Service requests dipped slightly to 901, led by 325 graffiti removal calls. Five food establishments failed inspection, up from four the month before.
