Loop permit value halves to $74 million despite busier month
The Loop issued 256 permits in October, up from 239, but their combined value dropped to $74 million from $148 million the month before. Most were express permits (169), followed by renovation work (50). Graffiti removal led 311 requests with 295 complaints; traffic signal outages and busted streetlights followed at 87 and 80. Crime rose 5% to 791 incidents, including 192 violent offenses. Food inspection failures fell 41% to 20. The big-dollar project that pushed last month's total past $148 million didn't recur.
