Violent crime doubles as potholes pile up
Hegewisch's violent crime count doubled from 11 to 22 in January, pushing total crime up 25%. The neighborhood also logged 24 pothole complaints and 20 requests each for ice and snow removal and abandoned vehicle removal. On the business side, Epic Banquet Hall picked up three licenses—caterer's liquor, retail food, and consumption on premises. Building permits dropped by more than half, from 16 to seven, all falling under the express permit program. Total permit value slid 44% to about $119,000.
