Hegewisch crime up 36% as permits fall by half

Crime in Hegewisch climbed from 56 reports in August to 76 in September—a 36% jump, with violent offenses up from 16 to 21. Permits fell from 10 to just 5, all of them fast-tracked through the city's express program. Permit value slipped 17%, from $99k to $82k. The 311 system logged 235 requests, down from 307 the month prior. Street lights out led the list with 27 calls, followed by 22 for tree debris. No new businesses opened or closed. The crime spike stands out in what was otherwise a slower month for both construction and service requests.
