Building permits in Englewood hit $1.55 million in December, up 189 percent from November's $537,000. Seventeen of the 27 permits came through the city's express program, with four demolitions and four renovations rounding out the bulk of the work. Service requests fell 13 percent to 634, paced by 57 calls for snow removal and 51 for garbage cart problems. Building violations drew 51 requests. Crime was nearly unchanged at 377 incidents, though violent offenses rose from 141 to 153. One restaurant failed its health inspection.
