Englewood violent crime up 45% in October
Violent crime in Englewood jumped to 195 incidents in October, up from 134 the month before—a 45% increase. Overall crime rose 26% to 469 cases. Permit filings climbed 54% to 51, with their combined value hitting $1.8 million, an 84% increase over September. Express permits led with 19 filings. Ten new businesses opened, including PINA'S AUTO REPAIR INC. and six tobacco retailers—HALSTED GROCERIES, INC., K FOOD & LIQUOR, MOON STAR GROCERY, MORGAN FOOD CORP LLC, FOOD BASKET, and Captain Jack's Beverages Chicago. Service requests dipped 5.5% to 902, with abandoned vehicle complaints topping the list at 72.
