Bridgeport violent crime spikes to 32 incidents

Bridgeport's violent crime count jumped to 32 in January, up from 20 the month before—a 60% increase. Overall crime ticked up 4%. Permit activity slowed: 15 permits worth $1.1 million, down from 22 and $2.3 million in December. Fifty-one new business licenses were issued, including American Roller Company (manufacturing) and 35th Street Tap, a tavern. Residents filed 165 tree-trim requests, though the city no longer accepts that category, and 142 graffiti removal calls. Total 311 requests dropped 11%.
