Violent crime jumps 59% in Belmont Cragin
Belmont Cragin logged 111 violent crimes in March, up from 70 the month before. Overall crime rose 16% to 313 incidents. Residents filed 1,839 service requests, led by 209 abandoned vehicle complaints and 177 pothole reports. The neighborhood pulled 33 permits—ten more than February—but their total value dropped 93% to roughly $1.2 million after last month's outlier projects. Eleven food inspections failed, up from eight.
