South Shore permit value drops 80% in December
South Shore's building permits fell to $3.8 million in December, down from $18.6 million the month before. The 24 permits issued were less than half November's count. Most were express permits (15) or renovation work (9). No new businesses opened or closed during the month, and the neighborhood logged zero service requests—an unusual quiet spell across the board.

Permit value in South Shore fell from $3.9 million in November to just under $500k in December, an 87% drop, even as the number of permits dipped only slightly (31 vs. 35). Most of that work came through the express permit program, which accounted for 25 of the month's permits. Service requests jumped 22%, driven by 114 tree-trim calls and 103 info-only 311 contacts. Crime declined 7.5% overall, with violent incidents down 14%. Food inspection failures dropped by half, from nine to four.
