Permit value in South Shore jumped 218% in July, reaching $4.2 million compared to $1.3 million the month before. The neighborhood saw 55 permits issued, up from 40 in June. Nearly half were express permits — 29 total — with another 15 for renovations or alterations. New construction and sign permits rounded out the activity. No new businesses opened or closed during the month.

South Shore 311 calls jump 28%, abandoned vehicles lead
South Shore logged 1,746 service requests in July, up 28% from June. Abandoned vehicle complaints topped the list at 152, followed by 130 building violations and 116 tree debris calls. Crime rose 23% to 825 incidents, with violent offenses up 13% to 298. Permits ticked up slightly to 37, though their combined value dropped 13% to $1.4 million. Express permits led at 21, followed by 13 renovation jobs. No new businesses opened and none closed. Two food establishments failed inspections, down from three the prior month.
