South Chicago permit value jumps to $59 million
A $59.3 million permit spike drove South Chicago's November numbers, up more than ninefold from October's $632,000. The 38 permits included 29 through the express program and two for new construction. Service requests dropped 27 percent to 701, led by 87 street light complaints and 60 for garbage cart issues. Violent crime fell 21 percent to 100 incidents. No new businesses opened or closed during the month.

South Chicago permit value craters 99.5% after big October
Permit value in South Chicago fell from $100.9 million in October to $525,000 in November, a 99.5% drop suggesting last month featured one or more major projects that didn't repeat. The 20 permits pulled this month included 15 through the express program. On the streets, 311 calls dipped 7.3% to 736, led by 52 abandoned vehicle complaints. Crime dropped nearly 20%, from 320 incidents to 257, with violent offenses down slightly to 98. Two food establishments failed inspection, same as the month before.
