Permit filings in North Lawndale rose to 39 in April, up from 29 the month before, but their total value fell sharply—from $10.7M to just over $2M. North Lawndale crime drops 36 percent
Crime fell sharply in North Lawndale last month — down 36 percent to 316 incidents, with violent offenses dropping a quarter to 125. The neighborhood added 13 new businesses, nearly double the prior month, including Plaza Food and Liquor, Rose Nails, and Ali Beauty Supply. Permits slipped 12.5 percent to 35, with express permits accounting for 21 of those. Total construction value came in at $5.5 million. Service requests dipped slightly to 1,246, led by the usual suspects: tree trim, garbage carts, and potholes.
