North Lawndale permit value drops 71% to $1M
North Lawndale pulled 22 permits in February, down from 41 the month before. Total value fell to just over $1 million, a 71% drop from January's $3.5 million. Fourteen of the permits came through the express program. Five were for renovations, two for elevator work, and one for new construction. No new business licenses or closures showed up this month.

Twelve new businesses opened in North Lawndale in February, including Lou Malnati's Pizzeria, O'Reilly Auto Parts, and La Catedral Cafe on Ogden. Permit filings rose 52 percent to 41, worth $2.8 million total. Twenty-five of those came through the express program. Service requests dropped 6 percent to 1,037—abandoned vehicle complaints (92) and graffiti removal (77) led the categories. Crime fell 7 percent overall. Violent offenses dropped 12 percent to 140. Five food establishments failed inspections, one more than the previous month.
