New City permit value jumps 53% to $5.6 million
Permit value in New City hit $5.6 million in July, up 53% from June, even as the number of permits dipped slightly to 39. Most were express permits, but six new-construction filings helped push the total higher. Service requests dropped 16% to 2,103, led by 227 complaints about open fire hydrants—unsurprising in a hot month. Crime ticked up 7% to 381 incidents, with violent offenses holding nearly flat at 152. Four food establishments failed inspections, a jump from one the month prior.

New City permits drop to 22, mostly express work
July brought 22 permits worth $2.4 million—down from 63 and $9.8 million the month before. Sixteen were express permits; five were renovations; one was demo. Service requests jumped 14% to 1,947, led by 211 complaints about open hydrants—a summer spike that outpaced the usual rodent calls (172) and graffiti reports (148). Violent crime fell 18% to 117 incidents. Five restaurants failed inspections, up from three.
