Near West Side permit value drops 72% to $23M
Permit value on the Near West Side fell from $82M in October to $23M in November, a 72% drop. The count also slipped, from 127 permits to 113. Express permits accounted for more than half the activity—61 of the month's total—followed by 32 renovation or alteration permits. Four new construction permits came through, along with four for elevator equipment and a dozen for signs. No new business licenses or closures were recorded.

Near West Side issued 108 permits in November, down 15% from October, but the bigger story is dollar value: $29.4 million, an 85% plunge from the prior month's $201 million. Two-thirds of the permits were express filings, with renovation and alteration work a distant second at 23 permits. No new business licenses or closures showed up in the data this month.
