Permit value on the Near West Side fell from $159.5M in June to $50.4M in July, a 68% drop. The city issued 149 permits, down 11% from the prior month. Express permits led with 79, followed by 30 renovation jobs and 21 sign permits. Eight new-construction permits were filed. No new businesses opened or closed in July.

Permit filings in Near West Side climbed 9% to 157, but the real story is dollar value: $193 million, nearly five times June's $39 million. Most of that came through 88 express permits. Sign and renovation work each accounted for 25 filings. No new business licenses or closures showed up in the month's data.
