Permit value in Near North Side dropped 31% in December, falling from $64.4M to $44.7M. The neighborhood issued 161 permits, down from 178 the month before. Express permits led with 89, followed by 29 renovation permits and 25 sign permits. Elevator work brought in 18 more. No new business licenses or closures showed up this month.

Near North Side permit value jumps to $134 million
Permit value in Near North Side more than doubled in December, hitting $134 million compared to $55 million the month before. The 164 permits issued were down slightly from November's 171, but the dollar figure tells a different story. Express permits led the way with 101 filings, followed by 29 renovation or alteration permits and 22 for elevator equipment. One new construction permit also came through.
